Some of the things you may see adorning Holiday Williamsburg, Virginia this November are wreaths. The Colonial style uses the wreath as a key decorating element. Though I cannot promise you will have the same success as someone who does this all the time, Here is an information link to a do it yourself wreath section from Colonial Williamsburg (which is a must visit site). Some of the wreaths you can make are:

  • Boxwood on flat wire
  • Double faced boxwood wreath
  • Pine cone wreath

Harvest Celebration in Williamsburg: Chowder Cook Off

What is the only thing better than preparing and cooking your food. The answer: eating it. Come enjoy the ultimate chowder cookoff in Williamsburg Va. 12 local restaurants will be competing to be the best. Since all 12 are delicious it is well worth it to try them for yourselves. Oh and did I mention there will be UNLIMTED CHOWDER. There will also be music and comfortable heated tents.

How do you choose a great chowder

For some the key to a good chowder might be one that you can’t stop eating see page. At the Jamestown Chowder Cookoff for the Harvest Celebration I think it would help to know some of the ways great chowder makers ensure success. Here are a few tips I read:

  • Make sure some other meats are integrated to help intensify the flavor. These will not overpower the clam flavor, but they will add some robustness
  • Use real clams at peak of freshness
  • Use real freshly chopped Thyme
  • Use heavy cream
  • Use red potatoes
  • Make sure to cook it and then let it gel in a cold area for a period allowing the flavors to blend (same principle as spaghetti sauce or chili)

I am guessing you are hungry at this point. See you there
